Maasai Community in Nyango village ,kwale facing starvation
Drought Situation in Kwale/Mombasa County Watch

More than 150 families from marginalized communities in Nyango village, Kinango Sub County have benefited from relief food donated by Kwale Tourism Association.
The Maasai community in Nyango is among more than two hundred families hard hit by the long drought in the area.
Kwale tourism association chairman John Baya said the ongoing drought situation has affected many families who are food insecure in the area.
“Nyango village has been in the spotlight on matters of drought, as tourism stakeholders we once faced the same problem during the covid-19 pandemic period, so we understand the hardship this community is faced with. For that reason we made contributions as an association and managed to provide these families with basic foodstuffs such as sugar, rice, maize flour and beans among other things, “Said Mr.Baya.
Mr.Baya called upon well-wishers to come out and donate for the families.
“I would like to challenge other well-wishers to support these families and other Kenyans facing starvation. What we have given them today can only last a few days and more food will be needed for humanitarian support, “Emphasized Mr.Baya.
At the same time Mr.Baya urged the county government to look for an amicable solution to mitigate climate change.
“This land is semi-arid so depending on rains for sustainable agriculture may not be possible but if the county government of Kwale will make plans of coming up with long term solutions such as dams that will provide communities with enough water for irrigation and livestock we are sure residents of Nyango area will no longer need food relief , ” Said Mr.Baya.
On his side, Juma Mwarizo, a tourism association member said the donation cost over Ks 200,000.
“We have united as Kwale tourism association to help our brothers and sisters in Kinango sub-county who are at risk of starving ,we want to continue with this spirit to ensure our people have food on the table, and we invite every well-wisher to come on board and join hands to save lives ,”Reiterated Mr.Mwarizo
Charles Musila Kwale county assistant commissioner based in Ndavaya confirmed the National government is rolling out relief food to families affected by the long drought across the country.
“We have tried to share the little relief food that we receive from the National government .we thank all well-wishers who continue to augment government’s efforts to provide food to Millions of Kenyans who are food insecure and on behalf of the security team in Kwale county we appreciate the efforts of the Kwale tourism association as well as other donors supporting our people In different ways, “Said Mr.Musila.
