President William Ruto has underscored the importance of constant consultation and unity of purpose among leaders as a foundation for inclusive national development and shared prosperity.

Speaking during a high-level consultative meeting held at State House, Nairobi, the Head of State emphasized that when leaders work together with a common vision, they are better positioned to address the pressing needs of citizens across the country.

The meeting brought together key leaders from Meru County, including Governor Mutuma M’Ethingia, Members of Parliament, and Members of the County Assembly (MCAs).

The engagement focused on priority areas aimed at transforming the county’s socio-economic landscape and enhancing the welfare of residents.

Top on the agenda was the improvement of road infrastructure to boost connectivity and open up markets for agricultural produce. President Ruto assured the leaders of the government’s commitment to modernizing the county’s road network to facilitate trade and ease movement.

The President and Meru leaders also discussed measures to ensure better returns for farmers, particularly those engaged in the cultivation of coffee, tea, avocado, miraa, and dairy farming.

Ruto reiterated his administration’s focus on revitalizing the agricultural sector through value addition, improved access to markets, and fair pricing mechanisms.

Other issues tabled during the talks included strengthening security in the region, enhancing health infrastructure, and expanding student accommodation to cater for the growing number of learners in local institutions.

The leaders also highlighted the need for more affordable housing projects and fresh produce markets to support urban and rural dwellers alike.

President Ruto lauded the Meru leadership for their unity and proactive approach in seeking solutions for their constituents. He pledged that his government would continue to engage with county leaders across the country to ensure that development projects are tailored to the specific needs of every region.

“As leaders, when we consult constantly and embrace a shared vision, we can drive transformative change and deliver tangible results for our people,” said the President.

The meeting marks part of President Ruto’s broader strategy to strengthen collaboration between the national government and county administrations as Kenya pursues its development agenda under the Bottom-Up Economic Transformation model.
