Authorities in Nakuru County have intensified their crackdown on violent gangs, leading to the arrest of Elijah Kimani Kinyanjui, the sixth suspect linked to a series of brutal robberies.

Kinyanjui was apprehended in Mzee wa Nyama area, where officers discovered stolen items from a recent armed robbery in Pakawa. He has been placed under the custody of Nakuru East detectives and is expected to face charges alongside five other individuals arrested earlier.

This latest development comes amid a larger operation spearheaded by the DCI’s Operation Action Team, Crime Research Bureau, and Nakuru detectives, targeting notorious criminal networks responsible for terrorizing residents. During a previous operation, law enforcement officers successfully cornered five suspects believed to be behind multiple violent attacks in the county. The raid also led to the recovery of an AK-47 rifle, which had reportedly been used in several criminal incidents, including the fatal shooting of a police officer on June 1.

The gang’s activities have left a trail of devastation, with one of the most chilling incidents occurring in Soilo, where members brutally assaulted a 24-year-old shopkeeper using machetes and daggers. After robbing him of hundreds of thousands of shillings, they shot him dead outside his shop, adding to the growing list of victims affected by their reign of terror. Similar attacks have been reported across Nakuru, fueling concerns among residents.

The five suspects arrested earlier have been identified as William Nywhili Rioba, Nyahili Nyamuhaga Magige, Emmanuel Muita Muita, Catherine Nkatha Zakayo, and Peter Chacha. Authorities remain committed to rooting out criminal elements and restoring security in the county. With ongoing investigations, more arrests are expected as police continue tracking down other members of the gang.

Residents have expressed relief at the renewed focus on dismantling armed gangs, but they remain cautious, urging law enforcement to sustain the momentum and ensure long-term safety. The operation is a critical step in reclaiming Nakuru’s security and reassuring the community that justice will be served.
