Uasin Gishu Senator Jackson Mandago hints at the possible removal of Cabinet Secretary Ababu Namwamba from the sports portfolio.

Uasin Gishu Senator and former Governor Jackson Mandago has offered a mixed assessment of Cabinet Secretary for Sports Ababu Namwamba’s performance, applauding his efforts while also warning of his potential transfer from the docket.

Mandago’s comments reflect the ongoing scrutiny faced by Namwamba, who has been criticized for the Talanta Hela program and the delayed completion of sporting facilities.

Mandago acknowledged Namwamba’s initiatives in revitalizing the sports sector, particularly his emphasis on grassroots development and support for national teams. He recognized the challenges facing the sports ministry, including limited resources and outdated infrastructure.

“This is the only time we have seen a passionate cabinet minister under the sports portfolio, we appreciate the work you are doing but we are afraid you might be transferred from this portfolio,” said Mandago.

Despite Namwamba’s efforts, there has been apprehension about the Talanta Hela programme, which aims to identify and develop young sporting talent. Concerns have been raised about the transparency and effectiveness of the programme, calling for greater accountability and clarity.

As the sports sector continues to navigate challenges and seek opportunities for growth, the performance of Cabinet Secretary Ababu Namwamba remains under scrutiny.
