Dialogue and Mediation for Peace and Cohesion Stakeholder Meeting
The National Council of Churches of Kenya (NCCK), in collaboration with the Kenya Conference of Catholic Bishops, the Council of Muslims, and Hindu religious leaders in Trans Nzoia County, has issued a collective appeal to the county leadership.
Their call is to address the emerging issues that threaten to divide the county, emphasizing the urgency of preventing these concerns from escalating into tribal animosity.
Speaking at a dialogue and mediating forum convened at the Bishop Muge Conference Center, Reverend Aggrey Walumola, Chairman of NCCK Transnzoia County, stressed the imperative of initiating dialogue promptly to avert a situation spiraling out of control. In his statement, Rev. Walumola remarked, ‘There is a pressing need for dialogue at this early stage before the situation exacerbates.’
Highlighting the role of both the church and leaders in maintaining peace, Rev. Walumola urged continued efforts in preaching and promoting harmony within the community. He emphasized the importance of patience, suggesting that leaders should focus on fostering a peaceful atmosphere while awaiting the upcoming elections.
This collaborative appeal from religious leaders underscores the significance of addressing societal issues through open dialogue and mediation. By calling for early intervention, they aim to curb potential tensions and contribute to the creation of a united and harmonious community.”
Eldoret Media Hub, a working space for journalists based in Uasin Gishu County set up by the Uasin Gishu Journalists Association (UGJA) through a Media Council of Kenya (MCK) grant.
The facility was officially opened in August 2021 by the MCK Chief Executive Officer David Omwoyo.
