Emmaculate Odhiambo resided in Kileleshwa with her aunt and the aunt’s husband, a police officer named Tobias Odhiambo stationed at Kileleshwa Police Station.

The circumstances surrounding her death suggest that on the evening of Thursday, January 11, 2024, between 5 p.m. and 6 p.m., Emmaculate was sent to buy food accompanied by a young child. According to reports, she slipped at the gate, fell head-first into a drainage tunnel, and was swept away by flash floods.

Tobias Odhiambo claims to have searched for her around that area, finding her body at 9 p.m. They provide pictures indicating the spot where she allegedly fell and was swept away. An image taken on Friday morning shows the vegetation around the drainage channel for further analysis.

The family contends that when they discovered the body at 9 p.m., she had already passed away. However, conflicting details emerge as the morgue records show the body was booked at 3 a.m., not 9 p.m.

Witnesses who saw the body on Friday morning reported bruises and blood oozing from the head, mouth, and nose. Surprisingly, the police from Kileleshwa took no investigative action until Tuesday, January 16, 2024.

The family, except the grandmother, discouraged a postmortem examination or filing a statement at Kileleshwa Police Station, asserting that Emmaculate’s death was natural. The deceased, an orphan raised by her grandmother, had moved in with her aunt and husband after completing studies at Nyabondo Medical Training College.

Questions arise about why the police delayed their response. Is it an attempt to shield their fellow officer, or is there another explanation?

The informant requests anonymity for security reasons.
