Former NACADA Chairman John Mututho has publicly addressed former presidential aspirant George Wajakoya regarding his advocacy for cannabis use in the country.

Speaking to the media in Eldoret, Mututho asserted that Wajakoya’s endorsement of cannabis sativa has significantly contributed to its proliferation among Kenyan youth, consequently exacerbating cases of substance abuse.

Mututho emphasized the severity of the situation, likening it to a national crisis. He stated, “The country is at war with the menace of drugs and substance abuse,” highlighting the alarming statistic that approximately 20 out of every 70 deaths in the country are attributed to drug and substance abuse.

In a poignant comparison, Mututho underscored the gravity of the issue by stating, “We are losing more people to drugs and substance abuse as a nation than casualties of war in countries such as Israel and Palestine.”

His remarks underscored the urgent need for collective action to address the growing threat posed by drug abuse in Kenya.
