Amidst mounting allegations of administrative misconduct and financial impropriety, a significant portion of Moi University employees and residents of Kesses have united to organize  peaceful demonstration on Monday, demanding the immediate dismissal of Vice Chancellor Prof. Isaac Kosgey.

Orchestrated by Eldoret-based human rights activist Kumutai Kirui, the aggrieved group has formally informed the Kesses Police Station of their intention to hold the protest.

The escalating tension stems from a series of grievances articulated by the residents, who have accused Prof. Kosgey of fostering a culture of corruption and mismanagement within the university. One of the residents and a  youth leader, Cornelius Kurtan, asserted that bribery and intimidation tactics employed by the university administration have thus far discouraged them from voicing their concerns. However, he affirmed that the group remains resolute in their pursuit of Prof. Kosgey’s removal.

The residents’ simmering discontent has been further exacerbated by the perceived inaction of Uasin Gishu political leaders, who were instrumental in advocating for Prof. Kosgey’s appointment while simultaneously pushing for the removal of his predecessor, Prof. Laban Ayiro. The residents have expressed disappointment at the leaders’ apparent silence in the face of accumulating evidence of mismanagement under Prof. Kosgey’s leadership.

Compounding the growing list of grievances, Moi University employees have raised concerns over delayed salary payments and the non-remittance of their deductions to relevant bodies. These financial irregularities have intensified the employees’ frustration and fueled their determination to join forces with the residents in demanding Prof. Kosgey’s ouster.

As the anticipation for Monday’s demonstration heightens, the atmosphere in Kesses is charged with a mix of anticipation and uncertainty. The residents and employees remain resolute in their commitment to hold Prof. Kosgey accountable for his alleged actions, while the university management grapples with the challenge of restoring normalcy and regaining the trust of its stakeholders. The outcome of Monday’s protest is likely to shape the future of Moi University and its leadership.
